A Note from Fr. Ringley/Una nota del padre Ringley

As I mentioned at all Masses last weekend, the bishop has asked Fr. Kloster to accept a new assignment as the chaplain of St. Joseph Manor in Trumbull (see the bishop’s letter on page 9 of the bulletin). He will begin his new assignment on March 1st. We are grateful to Fr. Kloster for his service to the parish and wish him the best as he begins this new chapter of his priestly life.

Please see the schedule of Lenten devotions on page 2 in the bulletin. As there is an opportunity every evening during the week, I hope that each of our parishioners will make the effort to “take on” something extra as well as give something up this Lent. Remember that there is the possibility of obtaining a plenary indulgence (under the usual conditions) for participating in the Stations of the Cross in the church.

The “usual conditions” for gaining a plenary indulgence include: completing the prayer or work, e.g. the Stations; be in a state of grace; pray for the pope’s intentions (Our Father and Hail Mary suffice); sacramental Confession within about 20 days before or after the completion of the prescribed prayer/work; reception of Holy Communion (prayer for the pope and Communion are required for each plenary indulgence); detachment from even venial sin (what exactly this means is hard to say, but we do our best and leave the rest to God). If we don’t manage to obtain the plenary indulgence it will be partial. For more details see the EWTN website.
