St. Mary’s Schola Cantorum
The St. Mary’s Schola Cantorum is a professional ensemble that sings for the 9:30 a.m. Extraordinary Form High Mass. Each Sunday and holy day, the Schola sings a polyphonic Mass Ordinary, motets by composers from the fourteenth to twenty-first centuries, and the complete Gregorian propers. The Schola is comprised of four of the best professional choral singers in the metropolitan area who travel to St. Mary’s each week from New York and New Haven, and several volunteers who sing at a very high level. Entrance to the schola is by audition only.
The continued success of the Schola Cantorum depends entirely on the generosity of our benefactors; without your support, we would not be able to maintain the high musical standards which are so necessary for the beautiful worship of Almighty God, and for the liturgical renewal called for so urgently by our Holy Father, Pope Benedict. For information about the St. Cecilia Fund, which makes possible the Schola Cantorum’s work, as well as several recitals throughout the year by some of the country’s most talented organists, pianists, and singers, please contact David Hughes.
