PRAYER APOSTOLATE - ROSARY
EVERY 3rd TUESDAY OF THE MONTH - 8 pm,
BY PHONE for 30 Minutes!

ALL ARE WELCOME!

CHAPEL:  THE SISTER OF LIFE CHAPTER AT VILLAMARIAGUADALUPERETREATCENTER

Following is a welcoming letter with some information and instructions from Kathy Jennings who is the Chairperson for this apostolate.  The below letter from Kathy, prayers and other material will be placed on our Gospel of Life Web site, on a new Prayer Apostolate page (to be constructed ).

Each conference call can serve 150 members, and we can have multiple calls!

We plan to have a priest, deacon, monk, friar, or other professed or ordained person lead each monthly rosary.  If you are such a person and are interested, please contact our chairperson, Kathy Jennings, who will be happy to schedule you.  203-972-1674.

Dear Prayer Apostolate Members,

Thank you for answering the call to pray for our unborn brothers and sisters.  We will join each month in praying the rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary by conference call on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 8:00 pm.  The numbers that you must dial will be posted on the GOLS web page each month.  There is a main number to dial and then a participant number to enter.  Please call Kathy Jennings with any questions:  203-972-1674.

Deacon Steve, from St. Mary, Norwalk, is the prayer leader.  His voice will be heard throughout the call.  Lynn Haffey is the respondent -- she will say the second half of each prayer for us.  The rest of us will whisper the second half and hold the receiver of our phone about 5 inches from our mouth when we respond to the leader, so it is only the leader’s voice that is heard on the call.  (Otherwise, our voices will compete with each other; some being louder, some saying the rosary faster than others, etc.)  By making all voices quiet, we will all have a most reverent and wonderful group-prayer experience.

We will begin on time, and we suggest that you have an image of the Bless Mother before you as we pray. Some of you may wish to light a candle.  The prayer goals are listed below and the intentions that we will pray for are also listed.  (The Web sites will also list them in greater detail for your reference.)

This is a powerful prayer meeting because we are doing exactly what God wants.  Unlike most other groups, we are engaged in fighting for a Culture of Life by addressing pro-life issues with our projects, networking, Masses, bulletin announcements, billboards (more going up this year), Web sites and other activities.  There are few people willing to become involved in this type of work, which is so socially unacceptable that many of cannot talk about even to our loved ones..  God rewards our efforts, dedication, and courage with many graces.

In addition to praying the rosary with us, we would like to invite you to pray every day for these same goals and petitions.  To know that such a network of GOLS members are joining in daily prayer is a great consolation to all those who are engaged in so many activities in the world for the defense of life, for example at abortion mills, in the political arena, at homes for pregnant mothers,  in educating our youth, and so on.  To assist you in your daily prayer, we have included several pro-life prayers for your use.

God Bless!  Kathy Jennings

Each month you will have a different number to call and participant's access code.  This month, the phone number and codes to use are below. To participate, just call the dial-in number below, and when asked, enter the participant's access code given.

GOSPEL OF LIFE SOCIETY:

PRAYER GOALS

The role of
pro-life Catholics

on this earth.

  • That  the Church, The Culture of Life, pro-life organizations throughout the world, and the Gospel of Life Society permanently, in the name of Jesus Christ, continue to conquer the Culture of Death, with all of its promoters and driving forces --  now and forever. (See the Society’s Web site for details on Masses, programs, projects and activities.)

  • That our pagan society have a full and complete conversion experience, humble itself, let Jesus Christ raise it up, and turn back to loving and following God – now and forever.

  • In the process:
    • That as pro-life warriors, we diligently maintain health of mind and spirit.  We will continually rebuke Satan and his demons, who, because of original sin tempt us daily.  We will also negate negative thoughts that we ourselves generate -- knowing they are generally prompted by immature aspects of ourselves (we all have them) who are vulnerable to the daily temptations and lies of Satan..
    • That we successfully manage and defeat the influences from humans and organizations of the Culture of Death who have aligned with Satan to promote immorality and, and work diligently to destroy their programs across the world through abortion and sterilization/////increased contraceptives/////healthcare with abortions, rationed care and nullified Hippocratic oaths/////pill-caused miscarriages, infertility, and serious illnesses/////same sex attractions and unsacred marriages/////divorces and fatherless homes/////assisted suicide and Euthanasia/////elder abuse/////pornography/////divorces and fatherless homes/////embryonic stem cell and human cloning/////population control/////movies, music and other media that damage the human spirit/////misuse of “separation of Church and State” to banish Catholics from the public square/////and Masses robbed of their God-given mystery and sacredness.
    • That we the laity - Catholics - with the help of our clergy, earnestly and naturally take our place as the priestly and responsible stewards of life, morality and love for God -- for ourselves and future generations – and gather the courage to share truth through love and works with those who offend God.
    • That we communicate clearly to all Catholics the consequences of supporting the Culture of Death -- consequences to their souls and eternal life.  That:
      • The killing of an unborn child is always intrinsically evil and can never be justified.
      • If those who perform an abortion, those who cooperate willingly in the action, and those who vote for bills and programs that promote it are fully aware of the objective evil of what they do – they are guilty of grave sin.
      • The consequences of such sin could involve being cut off from God’s grace (depending on culpability and God’s mercy). http://www.usccb.org/bishops/catholicsinpoliticallife.shtml

  • That God assist us by giving us the graces we needs to do this including Christ's own sustaining faith, peace, joy, wisdom, agape love for others, charity, and courage.

In the Old Testament, there are instances of God sending his angels out with “drawn swords” to prevent evil humans, including wizards and sorcerers, from cursing and casting an evil influence on individuals and groups of humans (see some examples, below).
We therefore ask God to send His angels with drawn swords to demobilize and neutralize, in all ways, those humans, organizations, institutions, foundations, and societies in our SEEMINGLY pagan generation who seek to oppress or murder segments of our human race, promote immorality, demoralize, enslave, and endeavor to promote the decomposing Culture of Death. As we live in a free will system, it is right to ask for this kind of assistance from God, AND as we PRAY WITH FAITH, it will happen. Watch.

Old Testament Stories

of Angels with Drawn Sword Who Prevented Evil

Genesis 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Numbers 22:23 And the ass saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.

Note:  Prior to the appearance of the angel, in Numbers 22-23, Balak, Zippor's son, who was king of Moab at that time, sent messengers to Balaam, son of Beor, at Pethor on the Euphrates, in the land of the Amawites, summoning him with these words, "A people has come here from Egypt who now cover the face of the earth and are settling down opposite us! Please come and curse this people for us; they are stronger than we are. We may then be able to defeat them and drive them out of the country. For I know that whoever you bless is blessed and whoever you curse is cursed."

But, as Jeff Cavins said in his Revelations Course (at St. Mathews, Norwalk), God stopped Balaam from providing the curse, by an angel with drawn sword, because the people of Israel are blessed by him.

Instead, then, Balaam, told the evil king that there was another way to weaken and destroy his enemies -- introduce immorality.  This is still being done by evil forces with forces in the US and world --  that promote abortion, contraceptives, euthanasia, assisted suicide, same sex marriage, etc.  Let's prayour rosary today and  whenever you can to defeat this enemy once and for all!

Note: Some of you wondered why God did not also prevent the evil king from spreading immorality.  I think this is the part of Christ’s work that we must contribute to – we must work and pray to cure the earth of evil doers by converting them – following Christ’s commandment to love God and our brothers and sisters more than anything else. I am a third order Franciscan, and I believe this is the ONLY way.  To love God, we must respond to Christ’s invitation to us to ‘come follow me’ and adapt his sentiments, his virtues, his life. To love others, we work with the Holy Spirit to foresake sin, thrive on the sacraments, become strong in our faith, learn to step asside to follow God’s will, and, in the pro-life arena, extend unconditional love to opponents.  We do this by finding out what damage, pain or hurt  they have suffered that  causes them to continually turn their faces from God or aggressively work against God. We, who have been blessed with a loving knowledge of God as father,  are now responsible to help our brothers heal -- through our work and prayer -- to turn back to God. This is hard work.  But, if St. Augustine and Fr.Corapi’s mothers were able to do it for them, we can do it for others, many of whom are our loved ones and friends. Sometimes, our opponents are so hard-hearted that we cannot touch them and then we must rely on the softening effect of our love and prayers over time, as St. Augustine and Fr. Corapi’s moms did. I cannot see that it is good enough for us to turn from sin and toward God.  We must bring others with us.  This seems right.  This is the way we deploy God’s mercy on this earth.  We are asked to love our brothers and sisters, love is active, and I believe we pro-lifers are “called to this action”.

Numbers v31 Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.

1 Chronicles 21:16 And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the Lord stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

v27 And the Lord commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.

v30 But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the Lord.

    • We further ask God to provide us with the graces we need to support our deep seeded desire to continue His work on this earth to give this generation a greater opportunity to freely and effectively turn back to God, love God as we should, and become a converted pagan society that He will be proud to call His sons and daughters.

    PRAYER INTENTIONS::

      • For the success of all of the stated Gospel of Life Goals
      • That more Catholics take up their political and pro-life responsibilities.
      • For those on contraceptives, who have had abortions, are divorced, have same sex attractions, and those with chronic sin problems of any type.
      • For youth and their parents dealing with teen-brain problems
      • For the support of Holy Catholic Masses, NaPro Technology, NFP, abstinence, and sacramental marriages.
      • For an America that remains strong, free, and a land of opportunity.
      • For the health, truth, beauty, and growth of our Church

      BEGINNING PRAYER::

All for the glory of God, Creator of all things visible and invisible!

O Holy God, You are Lord of all Life, and we turn to you now with complete trust.  In a spirit of faithfulness, we unite ourselves in prayer under the mantle of Mary, our merciful Mother.  We cry out in one voice and surrender all our work to defend human life from conception to natural death, and to defend all Your truths, into Your Hands, O Mighty God.  We praise and thank you for the gift of each or our lives, and we ask for Your forgiveness for any abuse of our life or the life of another that we have committed.  We ask You to bless and guide our every work to defend life and to proclaim Your truth, so that Your will may be done and Your light may shine before men.  Amen.

      THE ROSARY:

While the rosary and the indulgences attached to it by the Church essentially concerns the decades and the meditation upon the mysteries only, the following is a customary way of preparing for the rosary and concluding it.

      PREPARATION:

Start by making the sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

      Then recite the Apostle's Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ,
His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
      He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;
      He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Sprit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

Then say 1 Our Father, 3 Hail Marys (for the virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity) and then 1 Glory Be:

Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

      Hail Mary,
full of grace, the Lord is with thee; Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death. Amen.

      Glory Be
to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Amen.

      THE ROSARY PROPER:

The Rosary is essentially the decades and their associated mysteries, and only these must be prayed to "pray the rosary", either in satisfaction of Our Lady's requests, or, to gain the indulgences attached to praying the rosary.

The traditional Rosary is divided into three parts, each having five mysteries: Glorious, Joyful and Sorrowful. In his apostolic letter The Rosary of the Virgin Mary, Pope John Paul II proposed a new set of mysteries, which he called the Luminous, and which concern the period of the public life of Our Lord. For those who wish to say all 20 decades at once during the course of a day, they may be said in the following order: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious.

For those who wish to say only 5 decades per day, the Holy Father proposed the following schedule:

      Monday

      Tuesday

      Wednesday

      Thursday

      Friday

      Saturday

      Sunday

      Joyful

      Sorrowful

      Glorious

      Luminous

      Sorrowful

      Joyful

      Glorious

For those who prefer to follow the traditional order of the days it is:

      Monday

      Tuesday

      Wednesday

      Thursday

      Friday

      Saturday

      Sunday

      Joyful

      Sorrowful

      Glorious

      Joyful

      Sorrowful

      Glorious

      Glorious

While meditating on the Mysteries, recite:

One Our Father (large beads),  10 Hail Marys (small beads) and  1 Glory Be (before the next large bead) to make a complete decade of the rosary.

After each decade the Fátima Prayer may also be said (Pope Pius XII).

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven,
especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy.

      CONCLUDING PRAYERS
YOU MAY SAY AFTER THE CALL:

After the completion of five mysteries (5 decades), or 15 or 20, the following is customarily said:

      See full size image

      Hail Holy Queen
      (or Salve
      Regina may be sung)

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life,
      our sweetness,
and our hope. To thee do we cry,
      poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping
      in this valley of tears.
      Turn then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile show us the blessed fruit of thy womb,
      Jesus. O clement, O loving,
      O sweet Virgin Mary.

      (Verse) Pray for us,
      O Holy Mother of God.

(Response) That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

      Rosary Prayer

      (Verse) Let us pray,

(Response) O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation. Grant, we beseech Thee, that while meditating on these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

For the Intentions of the Holy Father

Catholics who say the rosary in a group, or, individually before the Blessed Sacrament, may gain a plenary indulgence under the usual conditions, which includes prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father.

For the intentions of the Holy Father.

Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
      Amen.

      Chaplet of Divine Mercy
      (Optional for Personal Prayer)

      1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross, 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary and The Apostles Creed.

      2. Then on the Our Father Beads say the following:
Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ,
in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

      3. On the 10 Hail Mary Beads say the following:
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

(Repeat step 2 and 3 for all five decades).

      4. Conclude with (three times):
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Note:  Is there anyone who might like to be the chairperson to schedule divine mercy chaplet and novena two times a year?

      Prayer of Offering

Mary, Mother of the Redeemer, your Beloved Son Jesus redeemed mankind. He died on the Cross so that we might live with Him and for Him. As Mother of Sorrows, you shared uniquely in His work of redemption. Please, Blessed Mother, accept our spiritual offering of rosaries and fasts, and present them to your Divine Son for us to plead our cause before our Heavenly Father. In this way we hope to be spared the just punishment that our nation deserves for killing our unborn, sick, elderly and unwanted.

Please, Blessed Mother, intercede to defeat the whole Culture of Death. Claim victory over all your children's lives from conception until they are called home by the Father.

We believe that your Divine Son sheds the graces of His redemptive sacrifice upon the world. But as you shared most fully in His sufferings as Our Mother of Sorrows, so now we believe that your Divine Son chooses to distribute the graces He has won for us through you as our Advocate. Therefore, we bring our needs before you in confident prayer. Please touch the hearts that need to defend life but choose not to. Please touch the minds and hearts of those on the Supreme Court as well as all the people of this land, that all may see what horror has been done to our young. Please, Advocate of God's children, intercede that our message may spread far and wide, so that all may work for the protection of the unborn, elderly, sick, and unwanted. Please petition your Divine Son on our behalf to protect our nation from all harm and to move us to reform those ways which are contrary to His law so that His glory may be greatly manifested here on earth, Amen.

He made him master of his house,
and ruler of all his possessions.

O God, You were pleased to choose Saint Joseph as the husband of Mary and the guardian of your Son. Grant that, as we venerate him as our protector on earth, we may deserve to have him as our intercessor in heaven. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life,
And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters.
I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion,
Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death
by the Resurrection of Your Son.
I am ready to do my part in ending

      abortion.
      Today I commit myself
      Never to be silent,
      Never to be passive,
Never to be forgetful of the unborn.
I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement,
And never to stop defending life

Until all my brothers and sisters are protected,
And our nation once again becomes
A nation with liberty and justice
      Not just for some,
      but for all,
      Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

"Prayer for Life", Evangelium Vitae,  Pope John Paul II

"O Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living,
to you do we entrust the cause of life: Look down,
O Mother, upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born,
of the poor whose lives are made difficult,
of men and women who are victims of brutal violence,
of the elderly and the sick killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy.
Grant that all who believe in your Son
may proclaim the Gospel of life with honesty and love to the people of our time.
Obtain for them the grace to accept that Gospel
      as a gift ever new,
the joy of celebrating it with gratitude throughout their lives and the courage to bear witness to it resolutely,
in order to build, together with all people of good will,
the civilization of truth and love,
to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life.
      Amen!

Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe

O Mary, Mother of Jesus and Mother of Life,
We honor you as Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Thank you for pointing us to Jesus your Son,
The only Savior and hope of the world.
      Renew our hope in Him,
That we all may have the courage to say Yes to life,
And to defend those children in danger of abortion.
      Give us your compassion
To reach out to those tempted to abort,
And to those suffering from a past abortion.
Lead us to the day when abortion
Will be a sad, past chapter in our history.
Keep us close to Jesus, the Life of the World,
Who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.
