Our parishioners have noticed that we have a second collection now at each Sunday Mass whether there is a second envelope or not. We have restructured the envelope system with Our Sunday Visitor such that soon you will be receiving an envelope to correspond to that collection each week. These second envelopes are earmarked for particular parish needs such as flowers, heating and cooling, education, organ maintenance, landscaping, etc. Once per month there will be a third envelope. That third envelope once per month does not stay with our parish. Rather, it goes to support various efforts on the part of the U.S. Bishops’ Conference such as Catholic University of America, The Retired Religious Fund, Catholic Home Missions, The Good Friday Holy Land Collection, etc. as indicated on the envelope. These “third envelopes” are not optional on our part: their use is mandated by the diocese. Some have asked why we are taking a second collection at each Mass. The answer is very simple: we hope to generate a little more offertory income to help meet the parish expenses. As I have mentioned above, we are getting closer to an exact count of what we spend, what we need, and what we are receiving on a weekly basis. Stay tuned. Seguiremos informando.
